Cacao for skin care is simply amazing. It is inexpensive, stays fresh for a very long time, is safe to use on the skin, has been used in medicinal folk remedies in ages past, and protects and lubricates the skin. And that is not all! One of my very favorite things about it is that a piece is easily transported with you during travel. There is no need to worry about getting your bottle of lotion through airport security. A piece of cocoa butter is the perfect solution.
Cacao (the raw form of the seed of Theobroma cacao, which is basically the cacao bean) is a skin moisturizer and contains oleic acid. It melts at body temperature, and the natural fats are easily absorbed by the skin for conditions such as dermatitis, eczema, and psoriasis. Cacao beans are rich in a number of essential minerals, including magnesium, sulfur, calcium, iron, zinc, copper, potassium, and manganese. They contain the fatty acids of oleic: 29-35%, palmitic: 20-30%, and linoleic: 1-3%.
Your skin is composed of three layers. Raw Cacao addresses the top layer, the epidermis and the second layer, the dermis. It is great at relieving dry skin and has a lubricating effect without being greasy, as it is quickly absorbed. It contains Vitamin E, which is naturally protective against free radicals and toxins that damage skin tissue at a cellular level.
This wonderful substance can be used for scars, stretchmarks, and dry skin. I have seen it work well in controlling Pityrosporum ovale and seborrheic dermatitis at the crease of the nose and on the eyebrows.
